Attending a meeting this week with a Quality Association, I am reminded of the power of the teachings of W. Edwards Deming.

我說大陸許多文/名人，八九十歲時最喜歡引

他舉的例多為昔日參加軍方安全的案例報告
歷史案例有二：Titanic 的四千餘萬網頁的逐一過濾，最後是船首高處所用

我才知道軍方軍種不同或稱為Technical Manual 或稱為 Technical Order
還有翻譯漏一行，造成維修上的問題，導致飛機因螺絲鬆散，許多架飛機停擺。
參加者一半的軍方背景；連翁先生都可以詳說服役時維修F104的許多故事。

我沒算對美國香檳校區與台北的時差。因為常看紐約時報 ，通常認為是差12鐘頭。我也說過，大家是老朋友了，不用花這種國際電話錢；筆談相當好：這又說回，我是文字型的；你可能是聲音型的人。你只要看gmail ，我是亮著的時候，都可以打電話來，如果你認為這樣比較好。

Robbie noted in his March 10 article that W. Edwards Deming, the father of total quality management, had "advised us in the 1970s – 80s that individual metrics don't teach us how to do our jobs better. They teach us how to keep up with a bean count."

開場白
This lecture series will cover what Deming considered the capstone of his career: A System of Profound Knowledge. In this first lecture, I will outline its evolution from his work in Statistical Studies to the state of its development at his death in 1993. I will also continue with my development of it to date.
這講座三場要探討的主題為，戴明自認為生平的登峰造極思想總結：「Deming’s System of Profound Knowledge」。在第一講中我會說明，它如何從他畢生致力的「統計應用研究」，到他1993 過世之間的演化經過。我也會「接下來講」，談談我近年來一些不斷進修的一些心得。
The second lecture will introduce two of the four parts of Profound Knowledge: Statistical Thinking and Psychology.
The third lecture will cover the remaining two parts: Systems Thinking and Theory of Knowledge.
All four parts are interdependent and the results are greater than the sum of their parts. There is no particular reason to pair any of the two, I am just trying to even out the time limitations of the 3 lectures.

I will have time at the end of each lecture for questions and possibly answers, but certainly more questions, because they are more important than answers.
