William Howard Taft University is a private online university headquartered in Denver, Colorado. Founded in 1976 as a source of continuing education for certified public accountants (CPAs), the school expanded into a distance education university that offers multiple academic programs of study. William Howard Taft University and Taft Law School together form The Taft University System.

As of July 2010 the University offered online degree programs in business and education from the certificate through the doctoral level. These programs are delivered through the university's Deming School of Business and the Boyer Graduate School of Education.[1]

It is the only[citation needed] DETC accredited school to offer a Master of Science in Taxation Program and claims to be the only accredited school to offer a Master of Business Administration Program in Professional Practice Management. The Master of Education program includes an elective track designed for Montessori teachers and administrators.

On June 7, 2003, William Howard Taft University was accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC).[2] On June 7, 2008, the Commission extended the accreditation until 2013.

David L. Boyd, President of The Taft University System and former President of William Howard Taft University, is a member of the Orange County (California) Board of Education.[3]
Jerome F. Alley, the University's current President, has over 10 years experience in distance education administration. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Recognition Award for outstanding contributions to the advancement of distance education from the Distance Education and Training Council in 2008.[citation needed]
