沒想到他是富蘭克林專家：I.Bernard Colen Benjamin Franklin's Science Harvard University Press，所以訪談多談Franklin（Peter Costa 《哈佛學者》（Conversations With HarvardScholars）蔡源林等譯，台北：立緒，【1991】1999 ＜科學發現史＞ pp.133-45） 極為精彩：「雖然 B. F.是個偉大的作家、智者和非常深刻的思想家（我覺得他這些方面的能力都被低估了），但歸根究柢，他最喜歡的工作，還是需要用雙手去做的工作、和印刷的工作。」

嘉言：「『是很棒，可有什麼實際用途？』『嬰兒可有什麼實際用途？』」

responded.）這是富蘭克林基礎科學所作的辯護，他在巴黎參觀汽球初升空時的名

言。

有趣的是，Deming去西方電氣公司研發部實習時，他的主管極重視「純理論」，因

為新世界都靠它們。
